Why did you decide to run for public office?

What is your background? Profession, skills, etc.?

Computer engineer, with over ten years of experience in the defense/aerospace industry.

What is your general experience with drug policy and substance abuse?

I've seen the failures of the “war on drugs” and want to see a new direction in a substance control policy, at both the state and federal level.

Do you support the creation of a medical cannabis program? Can you expand upon your general feelings about medical cannabis?

I fully support medical cannabis and believe it is a far safer alternative to highly addictive prescription opioid drugs used today.

What steps would you take to reduce the number of overdose deaths? Do you have any personal experiences with overdose?

Earlier this year, a friend from high school passed away due to an overdose. We need much tighter restrictions placed on opioid medications, and we need to look into safer alternatives.

Do you agree with this analysis? Please feel free to elaborate.

Yes.

Are you familiar with the principle of harm reduction? Do you have any experience with harm reduction policies? Please feel free to elaborate.

The available research on cannabis shows it is much safer than many common drugs, including alcohol. Society is likely legalizing the regulated use of cannabis and placing much higher restrictions on alcohol.

What are your general thoughts on the decriminalization of cannabis? Please elaborate.

Agree.

Are you interested in sponsoring drug policy reform legislation if you were elected? What would be some specific areas of focus or interest for you?

Yes. Medicinal use and decriminalization, with steps towards fully regulated use, similar to Colorado.

Anything else?
