During the 2016 legislative session two competing proposals for allowing patients to access medical cannabis in the State of Utah will be considered. The first is a proposal by Senator Evan Vickers and Representative Brad Daw.
At Interim Session on October 21st Representative Brad Daw (R-Orem) and Senator Evan Vickers (R-Cedar City) presented a piece of legislation that the media has reported on as a medical cannabis bill. Make no mistake, this is not a medical cannabis program it is merely an expansion of the existing CBD-only program. For more in-depth summary, please see our October 22 press release posted earlier on our website.
Senator Mark Madsen also presented about his piece of legislation that would create whole plant access. We endorsed and supported Senate Bill 259 earlier this year that ultimately failed in the State Senate. We've been working with Senator Madsen to make improvements to the legislation.
With this information in mind, join the Drug Policy Project of Utah for an in-depth discussion about the two pieces of legislation and our goals moving into the 2016 legislative session. RSVP REQUIRED as seating is limited.
